NPH established the Bay Area Affordable Housing Internship Program (BAHIP) as part of their efforts to promote racial equity and inclusion. BAHIP is one of several initiatives by NPH aimed at overcoming common obstacles to opportunity and cultivating a diverse group of talented professionals to strengthen the affordable housing industry.
This internship program lasts for one year and offers paid positions to college students or recent graduates of color from low-income backgrounds. Its primary goal is to kickstart their careers in affordable housing development and project management. Each intern is paired with a prominent nonprofit affordable housing developer, which serves as their host agency.
By providing hands-on experience, mentorship from leaders of color, and monthly cohort trainings, BAHIP equips passionate interns with both the technical skills needed in real estate development and the interpersonal skills necessary to navigate the industry as people of color. This unique combination of learning opportunities sets BAHIP apart from other similar programs.
